GM's San Luis Potosi Complex In Mexico Receives ISO Certification
General Motors has announced its San Luis Potosi Complex in Mexico has received 50001 certification from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). The plant is the first GM plant in North America and the only automotive plant in the country to receive the certification.
The 50001 certification acknowledges the most up-to-date and best international practices in energy management. To meet the certifications strict requirements, the San Luis Potosi plant documented the processes of development and execution of their energy efficient practices under an energy management system.
The plant first received recognition from ISO when it was awarded with the ISO 9001 certificate, which provides management tools to improve working operations throughout the facility. That was followed by ISO 14001, which is an environmental management system focused on keeping work practices at a high level while improving environmental performance, cutting waste, and reducing overall costs.
GM says the 50001 certification demonstrates their "continued progress toward meeting a companywide goal of reducing energy intensity from our manufacturing facilities 20 percent by 2020."
GM has other ISO 50001-certified facilities in different countries around the world including Germany, Thailand, Austria, Poland, Spain and Argentina.
