More than two-thirds (73%) of IndustryWeek's Best Plants winners and finalists over the past five years have machine operators perform preventive and routine maintenance. Such actions not only give operators more ownership over their equipment (plus, who knows the machinery better?), but they also also free up the maintenance personnel to focus on activities that require their greater maintenance-related abilities.
