The IndustryWeek Best Plants competition asks participants to share their average machine availability rate as a percentage of scheduled uptime. A higher percentage is better. Lower percentages or declining percentages can point to maintenance issues, scheduling issues or even workforce challenges. As the accompanying table indicates, IW Best Plants winners and finalists average more than 90% machine availability.
